Minneapolis and neighboring St. Paul area is truly a “melting pot” of cultural diversity reflected in the upcoming Festival of Nations. Around 100 ethnic groups will be coming together to celebrate their cultural heritage with three days of exhibits, performances, dancing, music, cuisine and demonstrations.
The World Cafes Area will offer 33 cafes from all around the globe. Among these will be Indian, Chinese, Peruvian, and Thai cuisine.
The Marketplace and Bazaar will have goods and crafts that have been inspired by ethnic traditions and cultures. Over 45 nationalities will be represented, including German, Vietnamese, Ugandan, Sri Lankan, Palestinian and Polish.
Special performances and activities will take place on the World Stage. Local teens and clubs will perform, as well as dancers and musicians from countries such as Serbia, Bulgaria, and from our own American Indian tribes.
The Folk Art Demonstrations Area will feature interactive demonstrations from crafters who will show their craft making skills and discuss the cultural traditions surrounding them. Some crafts will be Chinese calligraphy, American Indian silversmith, German porcelain painting and Hmong needlework.
Minneapolis photography buffs may take colorful pictures that will go to local Print shops and to Stationery printers.
Festival of Nations will take place May 4 from 4:30 pm until 10:00 pm, May 5 from 10:00 am until 10:00 pm, and May 6 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at the St. Paul RiverCentre, 175 West Kellogg Blvd, St. Paul.
