NEMAA will host its 24th AnnualArt–A-Whirl in a couple of days. The free three-day event will showcase about 800 artists in more than 60 sites from studios, homes, and art galleries, to local businesses and storefronts.
Artists will be opening their studios and holding mini workshops, giving demonstrations, explaining their installations and displaying special exhibitions. Guests may want to discuss techniques, ask questions, and buy artwork right from the artist. When people go on tours such as these, many collect artists’ Business Cards so they can get in touch with them at a later date for custom pieces.
Activities during the event will include computer modeling and 3D printing, clay, art watercolor, fiber and graphite demonstrations. Blue Ribbon Bronze will have a bronze sculpture pour. Donna Webb will hold a wet-on-wet water painting workshop, and Dyan J Padgett will offer a workshop on painting florals from photos. Edison High school students will give a mini-theater production on Saturday and an interactive spray paint demonstration.
Ne Tree House at 326 Monroe St. NE will have kids’ crafts, and demonstrations on hypnotic swirly painting on Sunday, art with Nina Holz, original music from Harley Wood on Friday, and She Beeps on Saturday afternoon. Scotch, a talented dog, will give improvised piano solos.
Art-A-Whirl will be Friday, May 17 from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Saturday, May 18 from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm, and Sunday, May 19 from 12:00 noon until 5:00 pm.
