2018 Waterfest is coming in early June. This free event celebrates the more than 1,000 wetlands, five streams, and 20 lakes that make up the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District.
Hands-on learning activities will center on conservation, wildlife and keeping local water clean. Nature-themed exhibits will be teaching how to tie a fishing lure, recognize a bird song, and identify an insect. Attendees can identify native plants and choose one to keep.
Guests can opt to ride in a kayak or canoe, or try their luck on a paddleboard or sailboat. Novice fishermen can learn how to catch the large ones, and experienced fishermen and women can enter the fishing competition. The winner may want pictures taken for later poster printing.
Teens can enjoy the climbing wall and water arcade while the youngsters can bounce around in the jump castle, and make a bead critter and plant prints in the arts and crafts area. Minneapolis families will want to try their luck at the archery range and putt-putt golf course, and visit the live animals such as alligators and snakes.
Little kids will get a kick out of boarding a street sweeper and learning how it operates.
Local food vendors will have the usual summer treats, and live performances will be presented on the lawn throughout the event.
Waterfest will be June 2 from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm at Lake Phalen Regional Park, 1400 Phalen Drive, Saint Paul.
