Minneapolis climbs for charity

Break the Bank - Climb for Kidney Cancer will take place here in Minneapolis in mid-October. This stair-climb event’s goal is to get at least 790 participants, each representing 100 of last year’s US kidney cancer diagnoses.

Competitive runners can take part in a timed race up and down a total of 6,054 stairs, and those just wanting a fun run can take on the lower bowl half-stairs and head toward the elevator at any time.

Three running options will be available. The Piggy Bank will be a climb up and down smaller steps on the lower bowl. The Big Bank or Tour de Stade is an entire stadium climb, while the Burly Bank is a repeated climb to the top of the stadium and down as many times as the athlete is willing or able to do.

Fun options include casual and virtual climbs and the Summit Stroll 2K, which is a run or stroll along the upper tier of the stadium, then along the mezzanine before crossing the finish line.

Swag includes black T-Shirts featuring the event gold ascending ram graphic design. Participants are to check in at the stadium’s west end (Minnesota Tribal Nations Plaza) 30 to 45 minutes before they begin their run, walk, or climb.

The organizers of the event hope to raise at least $79,000 to fund kidney cancer-related research scholarships.

The event will take place in Huntington Bank Stadium, 420 SE 23rd Ave, from 7:00 am to noon on October 15.
