Guthrie Theater at 818 S 2nd Street in Minneapolis will end its 2021 season with the timeless holiday tale, “A Christmas Carol” and start the New Year with Lorraine Hansberry’s, “A Raisin in the Sun.”

“A Christmas Carol”, currently playing until December 27, will bring curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge, the meek Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and the three life-changing ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future to the Wurtele Thrust Stage. This production, adapted by Lavina Jadhwani and directed by Joseph Haj, will be the first in-person performance of the play in the theater since 2010. This year, audiences will see new costumes, scenery, props, sound designs, and lighting.

When theaters present new elements such as lighting, costumes, and scenery to their performances, they often have pictures taken to be included in any new program or advertising brochure printing.

After a little break, the McGuire Proscenium Stage will present a Broadway classic “A Raisin in the Sun” directed by Austene Van. This was the first Broadway play to be written and produced by a black woman, had an all-black principle cast, and received four Tony Award nominations in 1959.

The storyline involves a black family living in the 1930s and follows three generations as they grapple with financial pitfalls and racism when they move into an all-white neighborhood.

Performances will be from January 8 to February 12, 2022.
