ASI celebrates Midsommar 2021

Over five days in mid-June, the American Swedish Institute will be holding its annual Midsommar Celebration.

Virtual workshops will present Nordic table, Nordic flower arranging, Intergenerational Midsommar origami, and paper flower crown demonstrations.

Swedish Drinking Songs will be presented in-person on Thursday, June 17 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm, and again as a virtual event on Friday, June 18 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm.

Minneapolis residents going to the institute in-person during the celebration will get to make their own Paper midsommarkrans (Midsummer wreaths made of leaves and flowers worn during Midsommar celebrations). There will also be a flower seek-and-find activity. The midsommarstang (or Midsommar pole) will be raised at noon on Thursday, June 17 for dancing. The courtyard will have interactive experiences such as kubb (Viking chess).

From noon until 1:00 pm, each day the event will feature lunchtime concerts. On Thursday, the music will be provided by Ross Sutter & Friends, on Friday the band will be Paul Dahlin & Friends, on Saturday Lillalg will be the entertainment, and on Sunday Nyckelharpalag will take the stage.

The Institute’s FIKA café will be serving Midsommar food and drink specialties.

Pictures shot during colorful events such as this are often taken to local Print shops to be included in the organization’s visitor guide brochure printing.

The first session of Midsommar Celebration 2021 will take place Wednesday, June 16 to Sunday, June 20 at the American Swedish Institute, 2600 Park Avenue.
