Annual Greek festival coming in September

Taste of Greece, a Minneapolis Greek Festival, will happen in mid-September this year.

Authentic Greek food will include Mediterranean-style lamb burgers, loukaniko (Greek sausage), and pork shish kabob. Greek desserts at the bake sale will include walnut-filled phyllo kadaifi, thiples (cinnamon topped, honey dipped fried egg dough) and custard, cookies, donuts and of course baklava. Fresh seafood and Greek wine will be available in the Courtyard Café.

A Greek boutique indoors and a Pop-Up shop outdoors will have Greek items for purchase.

The Fireside Room will have 30-minute talks about Greek iconography, culture and food demonstrations. Friday and Saturday evenings, and during the afternoon on Sunday, there will be dance lessons on the dance floor outdoors. Live Greek music will also accompany dancers in their colorful costumes on the indoor floor.

The Big Fat Greek 5K will take place at 5:30 pm on the Friday night. The course will be around Lake Calhoun. Participants will receive complimentary drink and food tickets. Proceeds from the race will go to medical research through the Chloe’s Fight Rare Disease Foundation. Shirts sporting the event’s Logo Design can be picked up before the race.

Pre-race activities will include a Zumba warm-up and a kids’ race. Runners will take off at 6:40 pm and they will be followed five minutes later by the walkers. A party and awards presentation will be post-race activities.

Taste of Greece will be September 11 through 13 at 3450 Irving Avenue South.
