The Richardson Nature Center in Bloomington will be hosting an ice harvesting festival soon.
The 21st Annual Ice Harvesting Day is an event where locals can learn more about Minnesota ice harvesters. Visitors can cut ice from a pond by using a vintage ice saw and experience pulling an antique ice plow. Guests will also weigh ice, use ice chipping tools, and create ice cubes. Dale Eggert and Tim Graf are two ice harvesting historians who will tell stories to attendees about Minnesota’s past.
Bloomingdale Fire and Rescue will be offering demonstrations during the festival that show how they perform ice rescues, and costumed interpreters from The Landing will teach attendees about food preservation techniques. Guests can also watch an educational film about how ice was harvested in the 1900s. Community organizations that host seasonal festivals like this can use flyer printing to capture the attention of community residents.
The 21st Annual Ice Harvesting Day will be held on Saturday, January 25 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Admission for the event will cost $5 per person, though groups of four or more will be given a 20% discount. Those interested in attending the ice-themed event can register for the festival online or call the organizers directly. Fires and hot chocolate will be available to help keep guests warm while visiting.
