Bee science class buzzes into Bloomington

The Bloomington Center for the Arts will host an educational event for children this May called The Science Crew: The Bee’s Knees.

The one-hour-long class will teach children how bees live, travel, and communicate. Parents are asked to stay with their children for the event, since it is not a drop-off class and is on the shorter side.

The Science Crew is a series of hands-on workshops from Field Trip Adventures, featuring lectures, programs, and science-focused presentations for assemblies and other events.

With a focus on teaching children from pre-K all the way through 8th grade, The Science Crew combines educational elements with entertainment in an attempt to keep students engaged.

The program works with more than 350 schools throughout Minnesota, reaching thousands of students each year. Children are encouraged to explore, investigate their surroundings and dig deeper into the world around them.

Though waning bee populations have worried scientists for years, recent research offers a glimmer of hope. According to a University of Oxford study, scientists recently uncovered a missing nutrient that caused populations to increase by 15 times when it was introduced into colonies.

Science classes like this may choose to use Stationery printing to create experiment guides, supply lists, and instruction sheets.

The Science Crew: The Bee’s Knees is happening on Thursday, May 7 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am in the Rehearsal Hall of the Bloomington Center for the Arts at 1800 West Old Shakopee Road.
