What's Happening in Gaithersburg, MD…

Company officials at UPS Inc. recently announced that hundreds of seasonal workers will be hired in Gaithersburg and northern Maryland, and in Pennsylvania.

Dan McMakin, spokesman for UPS, said that 410 people will be hired in the area Gaithersburg will see the largest number of new hires with 150, followed by 137 in Frederick, 87 in Hagerstown, and 36 in Chambersburg. The positions will include drivers of both tractor-trailers and delivery trucks, part-time package handlers, and drivers’ helpers.

The positions of drivers of tractor-trailers will be filled immediately, while a second wave of hiring will occur in November for drivers’ helpers and package handlers.

McMakin added that depending on the job, hourly wages will range from a little over $10 an hour to $28 an hour. Some of the seasonal jobs could become permanent so that the employees in these positions might want to look to business card printing so they can promote their positions and the company with their Business Cards.

Often seasonal workers are brought back for another peak of additional shipping during the month of January, McMackin said. Half of that business is the return of gifts and much of the rest is people making purchases with gift cards they received for the holidays.

In addition, UPS has a policy of promoting from within. McMackin started as a part-time worker 37 years ago and David Abney, Chief Executive Officer, also started that way.
