Special South Asian film viewing comes to Gaithersburg

The annual Washington, D.C. South Asian Film Festival will be coming to Gaithersburg at the end of this month. Ceasar Productions is hosting this year’s Festival.

A total of 35 alternative motion pictures will be shown, with documentaries from Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Some of these films are independent art films so are not released commercially. The Festival provides a unique opportunity for attendees to view them and speak with the directors and actors in the films after they are screened.

There will also be a special tribute to the late Rituparno Ghosh, an actor and well-known filmmaker from India. The tribute will be led by Raima Sen, an actress and director, whose film ‘Chitagandaga’ will also be shown for the occasion.

Actresses Aparna Sen and Konkana Sen Sharma will be other special guests at the Festival.

The Festival is being held from September 25 through September 27 at the AMC Loews Rio Cinemas. It will open with a red carpet event on September 25 and, on the last day, an Awards Celebration Gala will be held with a performance by Vijai Nathan, a popular Indian American stand-up comedian.

The use of local Print companies by Ceasar Productions to Print a mailer that can be send to people of South Asian heritage in the area, or simply those interested in the area’s culture, can promote attendance at the festival.
