Livability.com recently named Rockville as one of the 10 Best Foodie Cities in the country, meaning that those living in Gaithersburg will no doubt want to make it a go-to spot for eating out.
In order to determine which small and medium-sized cities have a tasty dining scene, Livability.com looks at census data with cities that have high concentrations of restaurants and bars, followed by those cities where money is spent by residents and others on independent eateries rather than chains. The editors also look at reviews on Yelp, Michelin stars, and winners of James Beard Awards.
According to the editors of Livability.com, Rockville became a dining destination in the area surrounding Washington, D.C. about 10 years ago. Now, restaurants in Rockville attract those from Baltimore and the surrounding areas.
In addition, there is easy access to healthy foods and fresh ingredients in the area and residents tend to prefer restaurants owned by locals rather than chains or fast-food places.
Noted restaurants include the Polish restaurant Kielbasa Factory, Il Pizzico, which makes its own pasta, and Pizza CS, Yuan Fu Vegetarian, which serves a variety of Chinese-inspired dishes.
