“Grandreaders” are currently being sought out for the summer program being led by the Montgomery County Public Libraries. Each grandreader and child is being paired on a one-to-one basis so that the children can practice how to read aloud. Anita Vassallo, the MCPL Director, said in a statement that:
“We are delighted to resume this in-person program at MCPL. This program is designed to improve students' ability to read more fluently and with better comprehension and to keep their reading skills sharp during the summer.”
The program started at the end of June, and it will be running for five weeks until the end of July. Registration is not necessary, and participants have the option of bringing their own choice of Books to read or selecting a book from the library. Poster printing is often used to advertise programs like this.
Aspen Hill Library is running the program on Thursdays from 3 pm to 4 pm. The program is operating at Gaithersburg Library on Wednesdays from 11 am to noon. Wheaton Library is hosting grandreaders from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on Mondays. White Oak Library is open to grandreaders from 3 pm to 4 pm on Wednesdays.
