There will be several traffic workshops in Montgomery and Frederick counties this month, including Gaithersburg.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration is hosting four public meetings to hear input on how to improve traffic problems on the section of I-270 from I-70 and I-370. Maryland residents have the longest commute times in the nation with the National Capital Region being one of the top congested areas. I-270 sees congestion for an average of seven hours every day.
As a segment of Governor Larry Hogan's Traffic Relief Plan for I-270 and I-495, the Federal Highway Administration and MDOT SHA are analyzing possible remedies. Before the National Environmental Policy Act environmental investigation, planning will begin. The workshops along with an initial study of the surroundings and traffic will occur prior to the NEPA analysis.
The forums will start at 6:30 and last for two hours. The first one in Montgomery County is on November 12 at Clarksburg High School in Clarksburg. The second will be on November 21 at the Bohrer Park Activity Center in Gaithersburg. Materials such as handouts and displays will be available. Displays often are created through poster printing to make them clear.
Halfway through the workshop will be a short presentation, which will be online as well. The public can submit questions and comments online or to the MDOT SHA address.
