Gaithersburg to hold inaugural film fest
The City of Gaithersburg will be launching a film festival this April to highlight the city’s diversity.
The Gaithersburg Film Festival will aim to represent a variety of cultures, identities, and artistic approaches. The event will span across three days, featuring four screenings of films selected through an online application process. Each screening will include one to two shorts and a feature film. There will also be a “talkback” session each day where audience members will have a chance to ask questions of the directors and other filmmakers. The festival will also be bookended by a dessert reception for networking, making friends, and discussing the films.
The top short and feature film will receive an award, as well as separate awards for the favorites of the festival jury and the general audience. Film festivals like this often use methods like poster printing to encourage people to give lesser-known and independent films a chance. The festival’s website states that it aims to celebrate Gaithersburg’s identity as one of the United States’ most diverse cities:
