The Casey Community Center in Gaithersburg will be offering beginner’s ballet classes for teens and adults starting this upcoming January.
The class will teach its students (recommended to be individuals who have never danced ballet before) basic ballet vocabulary and techniques.
Ballet itself is a kind of performative dance that has origins dating back to the Italian Renaissance before becoming a kind of concert dance in France and Russia. It has since spread across the world and developed into a kind of highly technical performative form of dance that uses a unique vocabulary for different steps and positions.
Examples of some ballet words and terms include “el pointe,” which refers to a position where a dancer supports themselves on the toes with special shoes, while “en avante” is the name for a movement a dancer makes towards the front of the stage. Attendees may want to Print a page like this one using printing services for use as a study guide during the class.
The ballet classes will start on January 12 and run until March 30, 2022. They will take place on Wednesdays from 10:45 to 11:45 AM at the Casey Community Center, which is located at 810 S Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg. More information about the classes and the opportunity to enroll can be found at the City of Gaithersburg’s website.
