The cities of Takoma Park and Rockville, the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection, along with the City of Gaithersburg, have formed a co-op of solar power so as to facilitate going solar and to build a network of solar supporters.
The Montgomery County Solar Co-op, MD SUN, is the sponsor of the co-op. As a nonprofit, it works with homeowners in Maryland to work collectively in terms of their buying power to make going solar more affordable. It has helped hundreds of residents in Maryland to go solar by providing technical assistance and other resources.
According to Dyan Backe, Sustainability Planner for Gaithersburg, the city is supporting the co-op so going solar is made as easy as possible for residents and will help them to save money on energy costs. The group will help educate them about solar technology so they can feel more comfortable with their decision to change energy sources.
MD SUN plans to hold an informational meeting to educate the community about solar and the co-op process at the Casey Community Center in Gaithersburg on September 14 at 7:00 pm. The deadline for members to sign up in the co-op is September 30.
MD SUN might want to consider using a booklet printing company to Print pamphlets and other materials about using solar power, its benefits, and the benefits of the co-op in general.
