Gaithersburg club hosts scenic races

Runners are invited to participate in a 50K and marathon in Gaithersburg. The Montgomery County Road Runners Club is hosting the run.

Seneca State Park includes several trails in Montgomery County that surround Seneca Creek. The Greenway Trail is full of obstacles, mud, hills, and steep slopes, which makes it scenic but difficult.

Individuals can register online until 5:00 am the day of the race or sign up physically at the race location. Runners will decide if they are going to do the 28-mile marathon or the 50K loop surrounding Clopper Lake.

Seneca Creek State Park is located at 11950 Clopper Road. Base camp will be at the Nuthatch Pavilion. Runners can pick up their packets starting at 6:30 am on race day.

If weather conditions make the trail dangerous, the race will be cancelled and not rescheduled. Officials will announce the cancellation as soon as possible should the need arise, but point out that there will be no refunds even if it is cancelled. Races use Print shops frequently to make race bibs for participants.

Both races cost $35. Included with registration are food and drinks after the run, marked courses, first-aid stations, portable bathrooms, and a finishers’ premium when runners reach the finish point. No additional awards will be given out for age groups.

This event is on March 7 starting at 8:00 am and finishing when all racers cross the finish line.
