Residents in Gaithersburg and the rest of the county are looking forward to Montgomery County Heritage Days. The two-day event offers a look back towards the past as well as a celebration of the community and people that make the area great.
Two different locations will be celebrating Heritage Days in Gaithersburg: the community museum and the observatory. The museum will offer visitors Flyers with a map and an instruction card as part of an elaborate, city-wide scavenger hunt. Artist Leila Cabib will offer a workshop on optical illusion toys, teaching participants how to create flipbooks, thaumatropes, and zoetropes. Guests can also play some old-fashioned games or watch local plein air artists as they paint Old Town landscapes.
The observatory will offer open tours to the public, and architectural preservationist Bryan Blundell will discuss the restoration and rebuilding of the site. The park will have a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities courtesy of NASA and the NISE network for children and youth to participate in. Guests can also locate and take a rubbing of the Gaithersburg Number One Geodetic Marker.
Montgomery County Heritage Days will take place on June 24 and 25 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Gaithersburg Community Museum, located at 9 S. Summit Ave., and the International Latitude Observatory, located at 100 DeSellum Ave. All Heritage Days events are free to the public. Anyone looking for more information should visit the website.
