The Gaithersburg Multicultural Affairs Committee is teaming with the Lakeforest Mall to bring a special show to residents.
The DiverseCity Showcase is an afternoon event that brings dancing from around the world to Gaithersburg.
The showcase is meant to highlight the many cultures that live in the city and the surrounding areas, and introduce people to the richly varied tapestry that makes up Gaithersburg. The Multicultural Affairs Committee was founded to help increase cultural awareness, and this is one of the many events it holds throughout the year.
Each section of the event features the music, dancing, and even fashion that are typical for the culture and region represented. The showcase begins with a Chinese folk dance called the Graceful Posture Dance and moves on to classical Indian dancing. Other cultures represented include El Salvador, Africa, the Caribbean, Palestine, Mexico, and Ireland. Many sections feature live music, and one segment will even feature a fashion show. The DiverseCity Showcase will be held on Saturday, March 18th, from 12:00 to 4:00 pm at the Lakeforest Mall, located at 701 Russell Ave. Admission is free to the public. Anyone looking for more info should visit the website.
