With over two decades of tradition behind it, Gaithersburg’s Young Artist awards will be held again this January, aiming to honor the city’s best young musicians.
The competition focuses on vocal and instrumental soloists, with categories for piano, string instruments, voice performance, and woodwind and brass instruments. It is a juried competition, with the top musicians between 12 and 18 years of age selected through a virtual audition process. Selected applicants will then perform as part of an in-person competition over the course of a weekend. Each participant will provide written feedback on their work, and the jurors will select a Grand Prize and three additional winners for each category.
The winners will also get a chance to perform for the public at a concert following the competition results. Previous winners are unable to enter, ensuring a new set of winners each year. The competition is funded in part by the Maryland State Arts Council with the goal of encouraging artistic expression and musical skill development among young people. Contests like this often use printing services to create special diplomas or awards to celebrate winners and other participants.
The 2025 Young Artists Awards competition will take place on January 11 and 12. The Award Concert will take place on the evening of January 31 at the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg.
