Next week, the Gaithersburg Fine Arts Association (GFAA) is hosting a free reception where patrons can meet the artists of this year's art exhibit and competition.
The exhibit, presented by Arts on the Green, will run from May 3 until July 7 at Kentlands Mansion. Nationally renowned pastel artist Jean Hirons will judge the exhibit. Hirons is a member of the International Association of Pastel Societies Master Circle, the Pastel Society of America, the Maryland Pastel Society, and the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod. Juried exhibits both inside and outside the United States have featured her work. She also teaches pastel in her Rockville studio Artists and Makers and wrote ‘Finding Your Style in Pastel’, an instruction book on pastel painting.
Members of the GFAA can work together to broaden their artistic experiences, especially with two-dimensional media, through the forum the organization provides. There are opportunities for promotions, educational programs, and outreach to both local and broad audiences. Since the GFAA has a focus on two-dimensional art, it can go into particular depth on such techniques as pastel, oil, drawing, acrylic, watercolor, and mixtures.
The reception starts next Thursday, May 9, at 7:00 pm and ends at 8:30 pm. The Kentlands Mansion Gallery on Kent Square Road displays art in a historic setting, and is available for viewing by appointment on weekdays due to private events. Many pieces on display are for sale as well.
Local artists can hand out Business Cards at art receptions with contact information, in case a patron enjoys their art style and wants to see more of their work.
