Gaithersburg appoints new director of finance

Janice Hartman will be taking on the role of Director of Gaithersburg’s Department of Finance and Administration, having held the role on an interim basis for the past three months.

The position had been unoccupied since Kim Francisco resigned in February 2022. Hartman was the City’s Comptroller at the time and has filled in as Acting Director since, but can now update her Business Cards with the permanent position.

The announcement was made by Gaithersburg City Manager Tanisha Briley towards the end of last month. When speaking about her appointment, Hartman expressed her excitement at continuing her work with the finance team and building upon strong foundations already in place.

Hartman started working for the city as the Assistant Comptroller in 2018. She became the Comptroller about a year later and has been the Acting Director of Finance and Administration on two occasions. As Comptroller, she was in charge of daily financial operations and accounting for the city. During the pandemic, she was able to help the city transition to remote and digital Forms of payments and account management.

In her Acting Director role, Hartman took on several important tasks all while still serving as the Comptroller. She used to work in several private sector firms such as Maxar Technologies and Hilton Worldwide before she started to work for municipal government.
