Food enthusiasts and curious minds will want to keep the calendar open next month, as a food discovery tour is making the rounds in Gaithersburg.
The Discover Local Food! Tour will kick off soon, offering insights into where food comes from and what foods the Gaithersburg, Maryland, area produces. The tour, part of the Garden Discovery Day 2024 event, will be organized and presented by the Montgomery County Master Gardeners.
Guests from Grade 9 to Grade 12 are encouraged to attend to gain knowledge and inspiration to learn more about the foods they prepare, cook, and eat. The tour guides will teach attendees the difference between local food and food produced elsewhere in the nation or world. Instructors will also shed light on what grows naturally in Gaithersburg and what can be cultivated in home gardens. Brochure printing is an insightful way to provide information about different crops and vegetables guests can grow.
Food sustainability will also be discussed to raise awareness of the issue in Montgomery County. Attendees are encouraged to bring a packed lunch for the event and to check the weather before leaving home to ensure comfortable clothing.
The Montgomery County Agricultural Center will host the learning session on Saturday, September 21st, beginning at 9:40 AM and ending at 2:10 PM. Tickets cost $18 per student, and interested parties can RSVP online.
