The Gaithersburg Art Barn will host a performance of the hit Broadway musical “Godspell” throughout March. This performance will be presented by the Sandy Spring Theatre Group.
Godspell was written by John-Michael Tebelak and composed by Stephen Schwartz. It started life as a project by Carnegie Mellon University students before being recorded for an off-Broadway production.
The musical has since had multiple international productions, with a mini version also created for younger actors.
The plot of the musical revolves around Jesus telling several parables to John and a group of philosophers. While he tells them, the cast performs them.
The Sandy Spring Theatre Group (SSTG) has been in existence since 1949. They performed annual spring plays at the Olney Theater until 1967. After that, their plays were staged at several area schools, theaters, churches, and festivals. Their current home, as of 2004, has been the Gaithersburg Arts Barn. Their performances have won several awards, including the Ruby Griffith Award.
The performance will take place on Fridays and Weekends in March, from March 4 to 20. Information on the exact dates and the price of tickets can be found on the Arts Barn website. Professional performs like those in the SSTG may be interested in business card printing services to promote their work, and poster printing to highlight upcoming performances.
