The Gaithersburg Book Festival is coming up fast, celebrating written word as well as its ability to enhance the human experience.
The festival's goal is to spark an interest in writing, reading, and literary discussion. Set up in 2010, it brings together hundreds of best-selling and award-winning poets, authors, and musicians from throughout the country to its picturesque park location. Banner printing is a popular feature at literary festivals.
The current Gaithersburg Mayor, Jud Ashman, organized and launched the event when he was just a council member. The event received support from the Mayor, the City Council, and the Cultural Arts Advisory Committee. The festival is organized by a committee consisting of city employees and devoted volunteers who contribute their time and expertise. Partially funded by loyal sponsors with support from the City of Gaithersburg, the festival offers programs for all ages and is free to take part in.
Free writing classes for adults and teenagers are part of the festivities. The list of 2024 seminars will be posted late in March 2024. Workshops from the previous year's events taught aspiring authors the importance of editing and how to write their own memoirs. Students in high school from all over the Washington Metropolitan Area are also encouraged to enter the poetry contest organized by the festival.
The Gaithersburg Book Festival will be held on May 18 at Bohrer Park, beginning at 10:00 am.
