Special education school to receive six-figure funding

The Doctor Franklin Perkins School in Lancaster is one of 32 school providers of residential special education programs that will receive a share of $16.1 million from the state of Massachusetts.

An amount of $378,350 will be given to the school. Residents of Devens who send their children to this school may be interested to learn more about this funding.

Flyer printing is often used to inform the community of such awards and their benefits for such schools, several of which have been opened over the past few months and have incurred many additional and unanticipated costs as a result of COVID-19, including enhanced cleaning protocols, increased staffing costs, infection control measures, and personal protective equipment.

In April, the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) provided $3m to support the residential education school system. The total of $19m acknowledges how these schools have endeavored to remain opened 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and their efforts to keep their staff and children safe.

The Doctor Franklin Perkins School serves children and adolescents with a range of executive function emotional, social, psychiatric, and learning challenges. These often include children living with autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder, among other conditions. Educational programs are year-round and cover speech and language therapy; programs in art, music, health, and swimming; reading and literacy services; and occupational therapy.
