Museum in Devens to host unique historical talks

The Fort Devens Museum will be hosting two talks in the upcoming months.

Poster printing is often used by such museums to promote programs like this in a town and its surrounding communities.

The first talk is titled “The Sudbury Fight, King Philip’s War”, and will be presented by Mark Nichipor, a local historian interested in the revolutionary and colonial history of New England.

The talk will cover the battle in April 1676, when over 500 Narragansett, Nipmuc, and Wampanoag warriors attacked the settlement of Sunbury in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This was a fight that was the largest and the last major one in King Philip’s War, and was won by the Native Americans.

The second talk is titled “The Ammo Dump: A Taking of Heritage.” This is also a book that was written by co- Paul Boothroyd, an historian from Maynard, and his sons Todd Boothroyd and Paul Boothroyd, Jr. The talk will explore the seizure by the United States Army of close to 3,100 acres of land that cover Hudson, Sudbury, Stow, and Maynard in 1942 to create an ammunition depot, and how this seizure of land affected the families living on this land.

The first program will take place at the Museum on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00pm, while the second one is scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at 1:00pm.
