What's Happening in Devens, MA…

Historic clothing revealed in Concord

Part of the extensive historic collection of the Concord Museum will be unveiled for the first time in a new special exhibit. There will also be decorative arts and textiles, making for something that people from nearby Devens will want to see.

Titled ‘Fresh Goods: Shopping for Clothing in a New England Town, 1750 – 1900’, the exhibit will look at fashion and shopping trends in the town during that period of time, drawing on letters and diaries, advertisements, photographs, and account books from that time. The exhibit was made possible through a collaborative effort of eight leading cultural institutions of Mass Fashion over the past year.

The exhibit will feature examples of men’s, women’s, and children’s’ clothing from the 18th and 19th Centuries, with a runway of fashions ranging from a handmade everyday dress made with cotton milled in New England to a Parisian dinner dress. David Wood, curator of the exhibit, said that there will also be a specially-designed interactive experience using an online shopping platform, where visitors can select their wardrobe of the 18th or 19th Century by purchasing shoes, bags, and clothing.

The exhibit opens on March 2 and will run through July 8.

Flyer printing companies could be used by museums such as this one to create flyers with more information about special events as well as regular exhibits.
