Devens home to larger biologics facility

An expansion in Devens, at a cost of $280m, has recently been completed by Bristol-Myers Squibb so that the company can accelerate the development of its portfolio of biologics.

The campus of Bristol-Myers Squibb in Devens is 89 acres in size and the expansion has added approximately 200,000 square feet for two new buildings. One of them is for clinical manufacturing where medications of an investigational nature will be produced to support clinical trials, and the other is a building for biologics development and designing processes for the early production of these types of medications.

According to the president of global manufacturing and supply at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Lou Schmukler, having these two new buildings will bring together the development of biologics and clinical and commercial manufacturing so that the development of these medications for patients around the world can be quicker.

The site previously focused on large-scale, bulk biologics manufacturing. The new buildings will now enable employees to collaborate more on biologics process development and manufacturing with the hope that greater innovation and creativity in all facilities will result.

It is expected that 200 jobs will be added immediately as a result of this expansion. This will provide a good opportunity for Stationery printers in the area, as the company will most likely need Envelopes and other such materials for use in these facilities.
