Canton to be part of charity walk

The annual Jimmy Fund Walk is going virtual, encouraging participants to walk “their way” throughout Massachusetts, including its normal home of Boston and nearby areas like Canton and Cambridge.

Associated with the Boston Marathon, the Jimmy Fund Walk raises money for the eponymous fund for cancer care and research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The walk is traditionally held along the same course as the marathon, providing a more accessible version of the famous event, but this year’s event will be held virtually, meaning that participants will be able to walk a distance of their choice anywhere from a local trail to a treadmill at home. Participants will use the Charity Miles app to track their distance traveled and money raised.

As with similar charitable walks and runs, the Jimmy Walk encourages participants to use the challenge to raise money from friends and family. These events also use Promotional Products to encourage participation, with the Jimmy Walk offering a ceremonial T-shirt to the first 5,000 entrants, and more gear for those who raise certain amounts of money. While the walk traditionally includes walkers from Boston, Canton, and other Massachusetts areas, this year’s event aims to attract at least one walker from all 50 states, with an online map highlighting individual participants’ stories.

The 2021 edition of the Jimmy Fund Walk will take place virtually on October 3.
