Canton presentation to give the buzz on native bees

The Canton Garden Club gives area green thumbs a place where they can gather, share tips, and find new ways to bring some added beauty to the community.

This January, it will be hosting a presentation that will explore the many species of wild bees that can be found in the state, as well as their role in the environment.

The club will be welcoming Sam Kent, who will be the presenter for the ‘What’s the Buzz: The Wild Bees of Massachusetts’ session. The event will begin with a coffee social, and after that, the discussion will begin.

During the talk, Kent will discuss the wasps and bees that can be found in the state. While many may be familiar with honey bees, the event will be focused on native species such as solitary bees, carpenter bees, digger bees and various types of paper wasps, hornets and solitary wasps. He will explain their habits and why they are important to their respective ecosystems, and the audience can ask whatever questions they might have.

Those who attend this type of function are often eager to learn as much as they can, and materials that are bound using comb binding can be an inexpensive option for this. These are obtainable from Print shops, which can also offer many types of promotional materials that can help to spread the word about the event.

The Canton Garden Club will be welcoming Kent on the morning of January 13. The Congregational Church of Canton will be the location for the activity.
