Unconventional concert to be performed in Andover

Serenades and Merry Pranks will be presented by MISTRAL at the South Church in Andover next month.

This presentation will mark the end of the 27th season of MISTRAL and will be a musical journey that unites string and wind instruments in a program of charm and high jinks that spans the world from Hungary to Italy and to America.

The concert will feature a sextet for strings, winds, and piano by Dohnanyi; wind quartet No. 2 by Gambaro; a trio for clarinet, violin, and piano by Schoenfield; clarinet, bassoon, horn, violin, and bass coming together for Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks by Strauss; and a nonet for winds and strings by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. Local Print shops often get involved with such concerts by printing programs with more details about pieces and their musicians,

MISTRAL has been presenting relaxed and creative concerts by musicians who are well-known around the world to the greater Boston and Merrimack Valley areas since 1997. Performances are often somewhat eccentric, personal, and committed to offering old traditions from a more youthful perspective. Its artistic director is Julie Scolnik.

The concert season of 2023-2024 is partly funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

This program will be at 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 6. Tickets are $40, with youth and student tickets at no charge, and can be purchased online from Patch.
