Local heritage group hosts activities to explore region

Essex Heritage, Trails & Sails is hosting a series of free events that highlight the numerous natural, cultural, and historic resources in the Essex National Heritage Area.

These events are being held in the in the Essex County communities of Andover, North Andover, Haverhill, Lawrence, Groveland, and Methuen.

The events that are scheduled in Andover include a historical exploration of Andover’s industrial village, paddling along the Shawsheen River, a walk along the Shawsheen River Greenway, and a tour of the historic West Parish Cemetery. Other events include an exploration of Harold Parker State Forest and of the Bay Circuit Trail in North Andover.

In 1996, an act of the United States Congress created the Essex National Heritage Area to recognize the importance of the role the County had in the history of America and the many resources that are still in the area. Essex Heritage created Trails & Sails to showcase the character of the region with creative experiences that connect people to the region so that they will feel committed to preserving it.

Trails & Sails most likely used a local Print company to Print a hard-copy guide of all the events and activities. This guide is available at the 13 Essex National Heritage Visitor Centers in the area and at branches of Eastern Bank.

These events are open to the public and will be held from September 25 through September 27.
