Events and activities to celebrate art in Andover

The Addison Gallery on the campus of Phillips Academy in Andover is holding several special events next month.

Local Print shops can help spread the word about such events with Flyers and poster distributed throughout the town.

The Addison will be open late on Friday, May 3 for people to explore the exhibitions and view the site-specific installation on the façade of the gallery by Jennifer Cecere, Edward E. Elson Artist-in-Residence. Guests can also create art with Cecere. On this evening, the Gallery will be open until 8:00 p.m.

Assistant Curator of the Gallery, Rachel Vogel, will give a tour and discuss the exhibit, Finding American Form: 20th-Century Selections from the Permanent Collection. This will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8. Space is limited so registration is required.

Finally, artist Joni Sternbach will be demonstrating the wet plate collodion process practiced in the 19th Century, using both period and contemporary equipment. Sternbach has been working with this process for more than 20 years and will discuss and demonstrate this historic technology of photography. This program will take place at the Artist Studio on the Abbot Campus of Phillips Academy. After the session, attendees are invited to visit the museum where they can view an exhibit of photographs of the American South since 1845. The talk and demonstration will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 18.
