Enhanced school security in Andover funded by grant

The Andover Public Schools (APS) have been awarded $38,000 for enhancements to security. This makes the district one of 41 districts in the state to receive such funds that are part of the Safer Schools and Communities Initiative.

West Middle School will have security infrastructure enhancements that will include video calls Boxes and new exterior doors and hardware on those doors in major locations. Guidepost Solutions LLC had been contracted to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the schools in the district, which was done last year. Guidepost analyzed procedures and policies, conducted interviews and site visits, and held focus groups with members of the district community.

School districts often turn to flyer printing to provide more details about such projects for the school community.

Keith Taverna, Assistant Superintendent of Finance and Administration, said that the Andover Public Schools are pleased with the opportunity to enhance the security at the West Middle School as part of the district's efforts to create an environment that is safe for learning in the district. He added that the district is looking forward to working with the Facilities Department for their recommendations and implementation of these projects.

Superintendent at Andover Public Schools, Magda Parvey, expressed her appreciation of the support of the Commonwealth in ensuring school safety.

Recommendations from Guidepost for the district and the community will be shared this fall.
