The Spring Program of the Essex Art Center in Lawrence, just a short distance from Andover, is now underway, ordering a variety of classes for people of all ages.
Mary Ann McArdle is teaching a ‘Basics of Drawing’ class for adults that will help them to sharpen their powers of observation so as to develop fundamental drawing skills. The media of charcoal, pencil, and others will be used to explore lines, shapes, shadows and light. Having started this week, the classes will continue until mid-June.
Also, Luba Shapiro has set up a class of ‘Drawing and Collage’ for adults that will help them learn about the relationship between drawing and collage and how they support each other to create innovative artwork. Work will range from the realistic to the abstract, and photographs, memory, and imagination will be used to expand on various drawing techniques. The class starts on April 28 in the afternoons and runs for seven weeks.
There will also be weekly classes for children separated by age groups, covering such areas as sculpture, clay techniques, fashion design and illustration, and animation. These will be will held after school and most classes run for seven weeks.
