A Pfizer facility in Andover will be one of the company’s three US locations to manufacture the vaccine for COVID-19. Pfizer also has plants in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and St. Louis, Missouri.
The DNA template will be made in the St. Louis plant, which will then be sent to Andover to add the mRNA building blocks to make the drug substance. This will be purified and sent to Kalamazoo for the final filtration, mixing, and Packaging.
Andrew Flanagan, Town Manager, said that Pfizer is one of the top five employers in the town, which will be providing police security for the facility so far. Town officials may also play a role in upcoming logistical needs. Flanagan added that the town is getting ready to make any changes to public roads or any other related issues, as this is the town’s role and contribution to the effort. Print shops may be hired to create Signs and other materials informing the community if any such changes will need to be made.
The vaccine was authorized for individuals over the age of 16 by the United States Food and Drug Administration and was shown to have an efficacy rate of 95% in clinical trials. Those who have a history of severe allergic reactions to any component of the vaccine are not authorized to take it.Get a Free Quote for Signs Get a Free Quote for Print Get a Free Quote for Packaging
