A junior at Andover High School, Avinaash "Avi" Janarthanan, is currently holding a fundraiser for the Lazarus House Ministries, an organization which provides food, clothing, and shelter to those in need. In just one week he raised close to $2,000 from 26 donors with a goal of reaching $10,000.
Poster printing can be used throughout town to make people aware of such fundraising efforts and the worthy causes they are benefiting.
Janarthanan explained that the Lazarus House has always provided the basic necessities such as groceries, meals, and emergency shelter to those in need, and now needs monetary donations to be able to continue with its services. Jeff Hassel, executive director of Lazarus House, said that the soup kitchen and grocery store-style food pantry operations have been converted to grab-and-go Bags for meals and groceries at this time, but their food services and emergency shelter procedures are still in place.
Lazarus House has also hired more staff to allow for rotation of the permanent staff in case of illness or the need to rest. The organization has also kept all its staff, including those who work part-time. Hassel said that monetary donations not only enable the organization to continue to offer its services to those in need, but also to hire this additional staff during such a period.
