Andover develops strategic plan for curbs and sidewalks

An Infrastructure Improvement Plan for Sidewalks and Curb Ramps, also known as a Sidewalk Master Plan, has been released by the town of Andover.

This document provides details on a comprehensive strategy to improve the network of sidewalks in Andover, inform decisions related to efforts related to the maintenance and rehabilitation of sidewalks, and provide an improved level of service. Local Print shops often assist in printing Copies of such plans that can be disseminated throughout the community.

This plan is the result of a rigorous planning process that was begun in 2021 and done in collaboration with Environmental Partners Group, LLC (EP). Over 60 miles of sidewalks and 1,002 curb ramps maintained by the engineers from the town were assessed and documented by EP regarding their material types, general condition, maintenance needs, width, and presence of grass strips. Sidewalks were rated as excellent, good, fair, or poor. Curb ramps were also assessed for ramp type, material type, and condition.

A great deal of public input went into developing the plans. Members of the community were able to comment on the conditions of existing sidewalks and make suggestions about the need for additional sidewalks.

These insights have enabled the development of the five-year capital plan for sidewalk improvements. The plan recommends spending an average of $1.55 million each year over the next five years.
