St. Louis examines global African futures

The Midwest Region of the Association for the Study of Classical African Civilization (ASCAC) will hold its 2026 conference in St. Louis this November.

The event will focus on the theme “In the Midst of Brokenness: Re-establishing Maat.”

The conference will examine political, social and economic challenges affecting African and Black communities around the world while exploring Maat as a framework for restoring balance, order and collective well-being. Organizers describe the gathering as an opportunity to consider African-centered approaches to current crises and to discuss future possibilities rooted in African history, worldview and self-determination.

Presenters are being encouraged to address issues affecting communities in the United States, Haiti, the Congo, Honduras, Colombia and other parts of the African world. Sessions are also expected to examine how ideas connected to Maat may be applied to social, ecological, personal and community life.

The conference will use a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either in person in St. Louis or virtually through Zoom.

Standard registration for both in-person and online attendees costs $25 before fees and taxes, or $31.28 including a $3.52 fee and $2.76 in sales tax. Registration is complementary for K-12, college students, and attendees qualifying for the economic-hardship option. Registration fees support ASCAC’s work and mission.

Academic conferences often use flyer printing to promote themes, presenters and attendance details.

The ASCAC Midwest Region 2026 Conference is scheduled from Friday, November 6th through Sunday, November 8th starting at 6 pm at Cortex Innovation Center, 20 S. Sarah Street, St. Louis, Missouri.
