South Louisville retail center bought by local nonprofit
Goodwill has purchased a retail center located in south Louisville for use as a new facility.
Goodwill Industries of Kentucky public relations and communications director Barnard Baker explained the nonprofit’s move:
Per a Jefferson County deed, retail properties located at 453 Forest Drive and 6321, 6303 and 6201 Preston Highway were recently acquired by Goodwill Industries of Kentucky Inc. The seller, Preston Street Group LLC, received $4.5 million in the transaction.
Numerous tenants occupy the retail center with appliance and electronics store Aaron’s being perhaps the most notable. Demolition of the facilities are not part of Goodwill’s plans for the facility. Instead, the organization plans to invest in “functional renovations” and cosmetic upgrades to make it suitable for the new Goodwill operations to take place there.
Banner printing services are often called upon when a business or organization wishes to promote the opening of a new facility.
A timeline and construction costs were not available and the size and scope of the project have not been finalized.
This purchase follows the acquisition of an approximately 20-acre site by Goodwill Industries of Kentucky that once held a Sypris Technologies plant in West Louisville at 28th and Broadway. That site was sought for a new headquarters and campus.

"Although definitive plans haven’t been determined, preliminarily, we want to utilize that property to expand our retail footprint and provide mission-related service offerings to support individuals in South Louisville."
