October date scheduled for acclaimed play
Later this year, the Kentucky Conference Board of Lay Activities will present Mama’s Girls - an award-winning play. The event is being brought to the public by the Kentucky Conference Board of Lay Activities of the AME Zion Church.
The play features five sisters from five cities working on a plan to care for their elderly mother. The show is family-friendly and is presented around the country, having received the Urban Theater Award for Best Theatrical Production for the 2nd consecutive year.
Mama’s Girls appeared at the DC Black Theater Festival for two years. It was also featured at ARTSCA in Baltimore.
The stars of Mama’s Girls - Samantha McSwain-Stith, Kynya Daniels Milam, and LaTonya Simms - have plenty of acting pedigree. McSwain-Stith is a former Tony Award Nominee, bringing comedy and singing to the stage. Milam has appeared in many Gdavis productions and currently serves as Director of Cast Relations. Simms, meanwhile, is known for her stand-up comedy skills.
