National recognition for two Louisville schools

The 2021 list of National Blue Ribbon Schools includes seven Kentucky schools; two of which are here in Louisville.

Greathouse/Shryock Traditional Elementary and Anchorage Public School were among the 325 schools honored as National Blue Ribbon Schools for either progress in narrowing gaps in achievement between student groups, or strictly for their academic performance.

This was Greathouse/Shryock Traditional Elementary’s second year of making the list. Its Principal, Karla Davis, said:

“It would be easy to rest on our laurels, but that’s not how we work at Greathouse. Our teachers and staff work tirelessly to maintain our long history of excellence and are very deserving of this recognition.”

A limit of 420 schools can be chosen in any given year. This is the 39th year for the national competition, which has honored over 9,000 National Blue Ribbon winners throughout the country.

Individual municipalities and states collaborate with Print shops to include details like this in their promotional materials, highlighting award-winning schools’ locations as a means to attract corporations.

The other five Kentucky schools to receive the honor are:

• Rosa Parks Elementary School (Lexington)
• Heath Elementary School (West Paducah)
• Gamaliel Elementary School in Gamaliel (Gamaliel)
• Saint Henry District High School (Erlanger)
• Blessed Sacrament Elementary School (Fort Mitchell)

In November, a ceremony will take place in Maryland at which time schools will receive plaques and flags
