What's Happening in Louisville, KY…

Louisville to host yearly farming event

The four-day, 2022 National No-Tillage Conference will be held in Louisville at the Galt House in January

For the second time in 30 years Louisville will once again be hosting the conference, which celebrates and encourages the farming method known as no-till, meaning not disturbing the soil. Appropriately, it was in Kentucky that the now common practice of no-till farming was first successful used in 1962.

After many years of research into the concept, Harry Young produced the inaugural successful commercial no-till corn crop in Christian County. It was a method Kentucky farmers needed for dealing with soil erosion created from the traditional agricultural practices used on the state's rolling hills.

Now, after 60 years, the no-till movement has become mainstream with over 104 million acres in the U.S. employing it, according to the information gleaned from the agriculture census of 2017.

The national conference is anticipating up to 1,000 attendees looking to learn more about no-till planting. Agronomists, leading no-tillers, other no-till experts, and researchers will pool their knowledge and experience to help farmers get the most from their efforts.

The National No-Tillage Conference will take place January 4 to 7, 2022. Scholarships for the purpose of enabling Southern U.S. farmers who have never attended a National No-Tillage Conference are available.
