Louisville restaurant pegged for best sandwich in Kentucky

A list of compiled by People magazine noting the best sandwich per state as well as Washington, D.C., proclaimed the winning Bluegrass sandwich to be found in Louisville.

The not so surprising sandwich choice was the Hot Brown, a long-time Kentucky favorite. However, the best location was not the originator of the sandwich, the august Brown Hotel; instead, it was the Hot Brown offered at Third and Main streets at the Bluegrass Brewing Co.

Eateries that receive awards or recognition for their fare often choose to include this information in the text sent to print shops for their letterheads or promotional products.

The menu at BBC describes its Hot Brown as an open faced sandwich on sourdough toast with smoked turkey, bacon, sliced tomatoes, cheddar jack cheese, mornay sauce and smoked paprika.

People Magazine explained that the process it used to identify the best sandwich in Washington D.C. and each of the other 50 states. An online restaurant guide was used by the magazine as well as giving great credence to eateries that include regionally inspired dishes on their menu as well as those that take advantage of locally sourced ingredients.

According to People, Indiana’s best sandwich is the Dagwood Supreme from any location of the Dagwood’s Deli & Sub Shop. Tennessee’s Mitchell Delicatessen in Nashville gets the top honor for its Mitchell Club sandwich and the Cheapside Café’s Breakfast Sandwich in Cincinnati, serves Ohio’s best sandwich.
