Local author plans to open specialty bookstore

J.L. Kiefer, a local horror writer, has announced her plans to open a bookstore specializing in the horror genre this October.

The new bookstore, Butcher Cabin Books, will be located at 900 Barrett Avenue here in Louisville. Kiefer, a native of Louisville, is being assisted in her venture by her mother. She has taken to Twitter to share photos of the ongoing renovations she and her mother are involved in at the bookstore, and has accumulated over 6,500 shares and 140,000 likes.

Promotional products can be useful in getting a new business’s name out where the public can see it, especially if the enterprise is a unique or unusual one.

In explaining her reasons for deciding to open the bookstore, Kiefer said:

“Focusing on horror, as I’m a horror author and avid reader and love all things spooky and Halloween, when I go to bookstores, there’s typically not a horror section or it’s extremely tiny. And, there’s never space for independent publishers.”

Kiefer offered up some other local sources for those who appreciate the horror genre: Kentucky author Todd Kiesling and Laurel Hightower of Lexington as well as Clash Books, Ghoulish Books/Perpetual Motion Machine, and Tenebrous Press. Beyond reading material other spooky businesses in the surrounding area include a scary-themed bakery and event food business called Fright Bites as well as HallowScents and Unorthodox both of which can be found in Bardstown, Kentucky.
