What's Happening in Louisville, KY…

Kentucky Derby race and activities rescheduled for September

The 146th Kentucky Derby is still planned to take place this year, just not when originally scheduled, and the same can be said of events that traditionally surround the iconic horse race.

It may be common knowledge by now that the Kentucky Derby will not take place on the first Saturday in May (tomorrow), as it traditionally has over the years. Many, however, may be unaware that the race and other festivities have been moved to September 5.

Every year, over 70 events leading up to the big race are produced by the Kentucky Derby Festival. In the past, several of the Festival’s events have been rescheduled but this will be the first year in the group’s 65-year history that the Festival in its entirety has been postponed.

A poster printing service can often be of assistance in ensuring attendance at individual events in a larger celebration.

The Longines Kentucky Oaks will still be held the day before the Derby, this year on September 4. Racing that would have taken place Tuesday-Thursday of the original Derby Week will now take place September 1-3. Thunder Over Louisville will be August 15, while the Great Bed Races will take place September 14. New dates for other events such as the mini-marathon, Fest-a-Ville, Pegasus Parade and Chow Wagon will be announced when they are finalized.

Kentucky Oaks, Derby Week and Kentucky Derby tickets that were bought for the originally scheduled dates will be valid automatically for the new dates.
