Greek Festival returns to Louisville this summer
The annual Greek Festival is returning to the city of Louisville this June for three days. It is hosted by the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church and is a celebration of Greek Independence Day.
The festival is set to feature lots of traditional Mediterranean foods like lamb and gyros (a shaved meat dish usually served on pita bread) and desserts such as baklava which is a sweet pastry made with layered filo and filled with nuts and sweetened with honey. Greek beer and wine will also be available for purchase.
There will also be entertainment such as traditional folk music, bouzouki playing, and dance performances from several Greek cultural groups from all over the area.
This year, for the first time, the festival will be working with the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival and will present a live adaptation of ‘The Birds’ by Aristophanes. Vendors will also be selling Greek-related merchandise and souvenirs.
No doubt this event will attract many people in the Louisville area who enjoy Greek culture and who want to try some traditional foods. Local stationery printers may be asked to help advertise it by providing products such as flyers and brochures to be distributed in the city.
The Greek Festival is taking place at Festival Plaza in Waterfront Park from June 12 to 14. Admission is $2 per person. To find out more about this event, call 502-425-7775.
