GE to create 800 Louisville jobs with $490 million investment

GE Appliances has announced it is making a sizable investment in its global headquarter location in Louisville, by developing its most advanced washing machine manufacturing plant.

A Haier company, GE Appliances plans to relocate production of over 15 front-load washing machine models to Appliance Park’s Building 2. The move will bring the clothing care production area up to that of 33 football fields while adding 800 full-time jobs.

Local Print shops are a source of many items associated with acquiring new employees such as employee handbooks, and in some cases company uniforms.

The vertically integrated plant will feature new automation including robotics and material handling. Also, part of Building 2’s redesign will be the in-house manufacturing of stainless-steel baskets and cabinets, injection molding, and metal stamping and forming of critical parts.

On its website the GE Appliances president and CEO Kevin Nolan said:

“We are bringing laundry production to our global headquarters in Louisville because manufacturing in the U.S. is fundamental to our ‘zero-distance’ business strategy to make appliances as close as possible to our customers and consumers.”

Approximately 8,000 people are employed at Appliance Park which is home to five plants, building washers, dryers, refrigerators and dishwashers as well as parts and components. The company also has manufacturing facilities in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Connecticut.

The new manufacturing lines at Appliance Park will open in 2027.
